Tahoe City
One of the oldest Lake Tahoe settlements
A city in name only, possessing just a few streets which will take no more than an hour to explore fully on foot, Tahoe City is one of the oldest Lake Tahoe settlements and was the site of a 1910 project to dam the lake’s only outlet, the Tahoe River. Fanny Bridge, which carries Hwy-89 across the river, passes close to the old dam’s picturesque outlet gates and the Gatekeeper’s Museum (https://www.northtahoemuseums.org), which carries displays on the damming project and on other elements of local history. More knick-knacks from early Tahoe City fill Watson’s Log Cabin, 560 N. Lake Boulevard, a structure that began life as a honeymoon cottage for two pioneer-era settlers.
